Tour Overview
A request-only nine-day southern Xinjiang overland route for 2-6 travelers, linking Kashgar and the Pamir Mountains with Hotan, the Tarim desert corridor and Aksu. - Passport eligibility and current local operating rules
- Rooming, luggage size, and walking comfort
- Vehicle access, seasonal roads, and weather backup plan
Is this Ili small group route right for you?
This route is strongest for travelers who accept several substantial road days in exchange for Sayram Lake, forest valleys and high grasslands. It is not a private tour, and the driver supports route logistics rather than detailed guiding.
Before you decide
- Confirm international-passport eligibility before paying.
- Treat Duku Road and scenic-area vehicle access as conditional.
- Pack for large temperature changes and limited luggage space.
Trip Highlights
- Connect Kashgar and Pamir mountain landscapes with the southern Tarim route to Hotan and Aksu.
- Use Karakul Lake and White Sand Lake as natural landscape days, subject to current border-area and ticket conditions.
- Travel in a 2-6 traveler format rather than a large domestic coach group.
- Reserve room to adjust controlled-access sections or road days after the actual departure is reviewed.
- No compulsory shopping stops; optional activities are never required.
Day-by-Day Itinerary
Day 1: Arrive in Kashgar
Arrive in Kashgar and keep the day open for transfer, hotel check-in and a route briefing. Kashgar Old City works better as a paced walk later in the trip than as a rushed arrival-day activity.
Day 2: Kashgar to Karakul Lake and Tashkurgan
Travel toward White Sand Lake, Karakul Lake and the Pamir Mountains, using the border and scenic-area route that is permitted for the group. The elevation rises quickly, so this is sightseeing from accessible viewpoints, not a high-altitude trekking day.
Day 3: Tashkurgan and the operating Pamir road sections
Use the road sections legally open to the group, which may include Panlong Ancient Road, Bandir Lake and other Pamir viewpoints. Border-area access, photography restrictions and permits must be reconfirmed before payment; unavailable components are replaced by a practical alternative.
Day 4: White Sand Lake, Muji option and return to Kashgar

Travel via White Sand Lake and, where access is approved, the Muji volcanic landscape. This long road day is subject to weather and local controls, so the final sequence is confirmed against the operating plan.
Day 5: Kashgar to Shache and Hotan
Move south-east through the oasis towns toward Hotan. Any cultural performance or local visit is optional and confirmed separately; the itinerary does not include sales-oriented stops or compulsory purchases.
Day 6: Hotan to Aral via the desert corridor
Cross the operating desert-road section toward Aral. Expect a long transfer day and limited service stops. The final plan confirms fuel, meal and rest arrangements appropriate to the route.
Day 7: Aral, Wensu Canyon area and Aksu
Continue toward the Wensu Canyon area when scenic access is open, then reach Aksu. Walking and shuttle arrangements vary with the local operating plan and are set out in the final proposal.
Day 8: Aksu to Kashgar
Return to Kashgar by the most practical confirmed route. Use a flexible Old City walk when time allows, focused on the streets and architecture rather than shopping.
Day 9: Depart Kashgar
Transfer for the confirmed flight or train. Allow ample time for airport security and departure procedures.

Travel Notes
Before you request a quote
- This is an inquiry-based 2-6 traveler small-group route. The final departure, exact vehicle, room arrangement and language support are confirmed by our travel team after your dates and party details are received.
- No compulsory shopping stops are included. Optional activities and independently operated scenic-area purchases are not part of the itinerary.
- Do not rely on a brochure’s domestic hotel list, self-drive access or seasonal road description. The final proposal records the operating route, tickets and accommodations for your date.
