Is this Ili small group route right for you?
This route is strongest for travelers who accept several substantial road days in exchange for Sayram Lake, forest valleys and high grasslands. It is not a private tour, and the driver supports route logistics rather than detailed guiding.
Before you decide
- Confirm international-passport eligibility before paying.
- Treat Duku Road and scenic-area vehicle access as conditional.
- Pack for large temperature changes and limited luggage space.
Trip Highlights
- Travel with a compact 2-6 person group in a licensed seven-seat vehicle.
- Use the vehicle-access plan at Sayram Lake for a broader lake circuit when current scenic-area rules allow.
- Combine Yining street life with Qiaxi forest scenery and a full Nalati grassland day.
- Return through the Tangbula and northern Duku Road corridor when it is open, with a route backup when it is not.
- No compulsory shopping stops; optional paid activities are never required.
Day-by-Day Itinerary
Day 1: Arrive in Urumqi
Meet the scheduled pickup after your flight or train arrival and transfer to the hotel. Keep the first day light. Urumqi airport formalities, city traffic and hotel check-in can take longer than a short map distance suggests, so independent sightseeing should remain optional.
Day 2: Urumqi to Dushanzi Grand Canyon

Drive west from Urumqi toward Dushanzi Grand Canyon and walk the designated visitor areas for views into the deeply eroded canyon. Continue to the confirmed overnight stop in Dushanzi, Jinghe or the Shuanghe area. This is a substantial road day, and the final hotel location follows the departure and room inventory.
Day 3: Sayram Lake, Guozigou and Yining

Enter the Sayram Lake scenic area for a wider circuit when vehicle access is operating. The actual stops are selected around weather, traffic and visitor rules rather than a fixed photo checklist. Continue through the Guozigou corridor, add a lavender field only during the verified flowering period, and finish with free time around Liuxing Street in Yining.
Day 4: Yining to Qiaxi and Nalati

Travel toward Qiaxi Forest Park and the Yanzi Bridge area for spruce valleys, streams and short walks on open visitor routes. Continue to the Nalati area for the night. Road and scenic-area vehicle conditions must be checked before departure, and any camp-style activity depends on the confirmed property and weather.
Day 5: Nalati Sky Grassland

Use a full day for Nalati Sky Grassland, including the operating scenic shuttle and viewpoints available on the day. Keep walking, optional cableway use and any horse activity separate: horse riding is optional, carries risk and should only use an authorized local operator. Stay again in the Nalati area.
Day 6: Tangbula and the Seasonal Duku Road Return

When the northern Duku Road is officially open and conditions are suitable, return toward Urumqi through the Tangbula Hundred-Mile Gallery corridor. If the road is closed, the operator may use the G218 and Tianshan Shengli Tunnel route, or coordinate a Yining rail connection when necessary. The confirmed backup and any extra ticket cost must appear in the final quote.
Day 7: Depart Urumqi
Transfer for the confirmed flight or train. Urumqi airport security and city traffic require a generous buffer, so do not plan a final attraction unless the departure time clearly supports it.
Price Includes
- Six nights in the confirmed hotel category or equivalent, based on twin-share rooming.
- Breakfast where provided by the confirmed hotel; some specialty local stays may use a different breakfast arrangement.
- Licensed seven-seat vehicle and driver-led route service for the confirmed itinerary.

- Scheduled Urumqi arrival and departure transfers after transport times are confirmed.
Price Excludes
- International and domestic flights, rail tickets unless specifically included, China entry documents and travel insurance.
- Lunches, dinners, drinks, personal expenses, tips and hotel single-room supplement.
- Optional horse riding, photography packages, entertainment, extra scenic transport and any item not named in the final proposal.
- English-speaking guide service. This standard product is driver-led; separate guide support must be requested and confirmed.
- Extra costs caused by weather, road closure, transport disruption or a required route change unless the final proposal states otherwise.
Travel Notes
Important fit and booking checks
- This is a shared small-group product, not a private tour. Daily timing follows the confirmed group and operating conditions.
- The driver coordinates transport and route handovers but does not provide detailed English-language guiding.
- International-passport eligibility and any current local documentation rule must be checked before payment.
- Each traveler should use compact luggage because a seven-seat vehicle has limited storage.
- Sayram Lake vehicle access, Qiaxi access and Duku Road operation are conditional, not guaranteed.
- Xinjiang road days are long. This route is not a good fit immediately after a long-haul arrival or for travelers who need a low-driving itinerary.
For wider context, compare the Xinjiang destination guide, the Sayram Lake planning guide and the Ili grassland comparison before selecting a departure.
