Hotels near the Bund, People's Square, Nanjing Road, or nearby central districts can work well for first-time visitors who want easy evening walks and short access to classic city sights. These areas may cost more and can be busy, but they reduce friction for a short Shanghai stay.

Pudong and skyline-side stays

Pudong hotels can suit travelers who want skyline views, business facilities, or easier access to Pudong-side meetings. For pure sightseeing, check the daily route carefully because crossing the river and returning late can add time. Pudong is also important for many international flight arrivals and departures.

Hongqiao and railway convenience

Hongqiao can be practical if the route uses high-speed rail, especially for travelers continuing to Suzhou, Hangzhou, Beijing, or other cities. It is less atmospheric for first-time sightseeing, but the logistics can be strong when the schedule is train-heavy.
